Sacramento authorities are working a violent incident that unfolded on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park at the moment officers were dispersing a large unsanctioned party of an estimated several hundred individuals.
Prior to the Shooting
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies initially got calls about Howe Park at approximately 6:30 PM on April 18 after learning of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. After that, a second call came in regarding a possible fight occurring within the park grounds.
A law enforcement helicopter scanned the area from the air but could not confirm any ongoing fight. Regardless, it was apparent that hundreds of people had come together at the location in an unauthorized manner.
When the Shots Rang Out
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies started clearing the unauthorized gathering by surrounding the park and issuing commands over loudspeakers directing those gathered to disperse at once. Roughly 15 minutes were given for individuals to vacate.
As the crowd was being cleared that upwards of 20 gunshots cut through the air. The rapid succession of shots sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Deputies swiftly started locating gunshot victims.
Four Victims Hospitalized
In total, four victims were identified as having gunshot wounds. The shooting victims — Arden Arcade shooting April 2026 made up of one woman and three men all reportedly in their twenties — were rushed to hospitals in the Sacramento area. Doctors and nurses noted that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one had moderate injuries, and one had injuries classified as minor. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District also responded and provided medical assistance the injured at the park.
Crime Scene Evidence
The primary shooting scene was believed to have unfolded on the Cottage Way side of the park alongside the local Home Depot located at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Crime scene investigators discovered extra shell casings on Cottage Way. Projectile impacts were discovered in the iron perimeter fence bordering the Home Depot store. These discoveries suggested that at least one of the shooters had been aiming south from the Cottage Way area toward the Home Depot building and parking lot. The nearby Home Depot was locked down while the scene was active. Crime scene technicians and detectives remained on scene through the early morning hours.
Suspect Information
Information obtained over scanner radio traffic indicated that a Kia vehicle had been detained in Solano County California. Four occupants were taken into custody. Sheriff's units were heading to pick up the four detainees to pick up those detained for formal questioning. Video reviewed at the scene showed that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
